ComicBatman first appeared in comics May 1939 in Detective Comics #27. Written by Bill Finger and drawn by Bob Kane under DC Comics, the six-page story was called "The Case of the Chemical Syndicate." In Spring 1940, Batman received his own comic series titled "Batman," also created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane. Since then Batman has continuously featured and starred in numerous comics.
SHowIn 1943, "Batman" appeared as a 15 chapter movie serial made by Columbia Pictures. Each chapter was less than a half hour in length and was shown at local cinemas every week. Columbia Pictures released a second serial in 1949, called "Batman and Robin." Less than two decades later, in 1966, Batman's first television show was aired on January 12. The show ran for three seasons before ending on March 14, 1968.
Cartoon"The New Adventures of Batman" was the first cartoon series revolving around Batman. It aired on February 10, 1977 and ran until 1981. The second Batman cartoon "Batman: The Animated Series," premiered in September 1992 and ran for three years. In 1997, "The New Batman Adventures" aired, running until 1999 when "Batman Beyond" was introduced. This fourth show ended in 2001 and was followed by "The Batman" in 2004. "Batman: The Brave and the Bold" then took over in 2008 and ending in 2011. A new Batman cartoon, called "Beware the Batman," is set to release in July 2013.
